This past weekend MHF Skarpnack hosted the last race of the 2006 season in Sweden, in southern parts of Stockholm.

The weather was great, around 9 degrees in the mornings and rising to the 20s in mid-day. The changing temperature made a big difference on the grip, low grip in the morning and good grip mid day and lowered grip towards the afternoon.

For a few drivers this race didn’t mean so much, as end results were not going to make so much of a big difference on results in the cup. I had secured the overall win after race 3 (of 4), and also the Swedish ranking for 2006 was also already set. So it became a relaxed and friendly race, with the only thing to fight for being, of course, bragging rights until spring.

Three qualifiers were held on Saturday and 1 round on Sunday morning. I managed to win the first 3 and claimed the TQ.

In semi A I had the pole position. During the first lap I made a few small mistakes and Christoffer Svensson took the lead. I managed to inch up and pass Christoffer, then kept a gap up until the finish line. Following us to the main was also Jonas Eriksson, Fredrik Mathiesen, and Rickard Hellsten.

The semi B was a very interesting show, with Mikael Palsson, Linus Thern, and Andreas Edvinsson battling heavily for the lead. In the end it was Mikael pallson that took the win, followed by Andreas Edvinsson, Linus Thern, Mikael Sensson (XRAY XB8-TQ) and Robert Häggren (XRAY XB8-TQ).

For the main we could see the drivers who were expected to be there, and knew that 45 minutes of racing was going to be tough. At the beginning of the main there was very close racing. With the track being a bit slippery, it made it hard to push through the corners; all drivers kept the same pace because of it. I kept the lead until 10min in, when suddenly Linus Thern came up and passed me, then proceeded to put a gap between him and the rest of us. I tried very hard to catch up by jumping longer and trying to push harder through the corners, but I made a few mistakes and Linus was gone. Close behind me was Christoffer Svensson, and we both swapped the 2nd place position back-and-forth for the rest of the main, but in the end I managed to get ahead and took 2nd spot behind Linus.

Final results:

1. Linus Thern
2. Robert Gustafsson (XRAY XB8-TQ)
3. Christoffer Svensson
4. Mikael Palsson
5. Robert Häggren (XRAY XB8-TQ)
6. Andreas Edvinsson
7. Mikael Svensson (XRAY XB8-TQ)
8. Jonas Eriksson
9. Fredrik Mathiesen
10. Rickard Hellsten
